One Direction fans were overcome with emotion on
Thursday as they met the former X Factor band.
But while their excitement could be forgiven if
they had actually come face-to-face with the boys themselves, the devotees were
in fact getting up close and personal with the five-piece's waxwork doubles.
Around 60 fans of the band were on hand as the models
were unveiled at Madame Tussauds in London.
The likenesses have taken months of work by Madame
Tussauds sculptors and stylists, and even the chart-topping group were
impressed by the results when they were given a sneak peek at the finished
models earlier this week.
After being introduced to their doubles, Zayn Malik
said: 'They look wicked, they're bang on.'
Niall Horan was taken aback by the experience,
saying: 'This is weird - he's wearing my actual shoes.'
And Harry Styles added: 'It's amazing and such an
honour.'
Harry's waxwork appeared to be the most popular of
the group, with girls clamouring to give him a kiss.
Liam Payne also said he considers it a 'privilege'
that the boys have received their own wax figures from the famed tourist
attraction, which has also immortalised the likes of Madonna, Michael Jackson
and Queen Elizabeth.
He said: 'This is definitely a privilege, getting a
wax figure.'
Visitors will have just 12 weeks to see the
waxworks at Madame Tussauds London before they are taken to other Madame
Tussauds attractions around the world including New York City and Sydney,
Australia.
One Direction topped the charts for a third time
last month with their Comic Relief single One Way Or Another.
